B aptism and Temptations
I learned that John the Baptist was not just a wild man. For some reason the image that I idetified with John the Baptist was a man with a long unkept beard with leather skin and almost wildlike eyes. As I read this passage though Irealized that John the Baptists was among the chose, and that he probably was more "normal" than I had ever imagined. It put an entirely new thought into my heart and mind to imagine a dignified, well respected, man of the church looking into the Saviors eyes at the waters of baptisum. Suddenly the part were John tells that Savior that "He should be the one baptizing him" took on a whole new meaning. I tried to imagine Gordon B. Hinkley or Thomas S. Monson in the John the Baptists shoes, and my heart was softened.

I learned that in the Jewish culture at the age of 12 the children were expected to speak to the elders and to have them question them. I also learned that when Jesus was talking to the men in the temple those men would have had to be humble enough to question the boy sitting before them, and to listen to what he was saying. This really impressed me because sometimes I get the wrong idea of all of the church leaders in the time of Jesus and think that all of them were out to kill Him. What I had not thought of was that some of the church leaders listened to the Savior and followed what His council was. This was a new thought to me. I also realized that Jesus did not just sit around until it was time for his ministry to begin; He must have been actively involved in God’s work to help develop and prepare himself for the trials and tribulations that would were to happen during His ministry. Right now my life is fairly easy; I mean sometimes classes are hard, but really. This example helped me to realize that I need to be preparing myself for the trials and tribulations that are sure to enter my life.

Meridian of Time- Historical Backgrounds
This was really interesting to me, because only this Christmas have I begun to understand that part of the majestic of the Christmas story is that there is no once upon a time and there is no the end to the story. It is a story that is still happening, and it is a story that started long before Christ’s Birth. It got me thinking about my own story, and how my life did not start at birth, and how through the atonement my life does not end after death. This was really influential to me. While I was reading about the Meridian of Time and Historical Backgrounds I was about to think about how my life story is as connected and influenced by the thousands of lives that came before me. It was remarkable to realize that the friends I have, and the person that I am is not just simply because I was born, but because thousands of people, even millions of people, and dare I say billions of people were born, came to earth, and lived. Their stories and lives effect mine and I feel so much more grateful and responsible to make sure that my life influences those that come after me, and because I can do temple work for the dead I can even influence those who have come before me.

Prophecies of Messiah

Last semester I took an Isaiah class. While I was in the class I learned so much about how many prophecies there were about the Christ. This time while I was reading I was thinking of all of those prophecies and I was thinking about all of the time and energy and planning that went into the preparation of the Savior’s life. Then I started to think about the reason why there was so much preparation for His life, and I realized that it was not simply just to get Him here so that He could be here. It was so that He could fulfill His calling, and His calling was to serve. Just as my purpose to get to this earth in the particular time, and particular place that I am at is not simply so that I can be here to float around on this earth. I am here right now so that I can serve those around me, who need my God’s help and need to recognize His love.
